Care Basics Tune Tips Piano Types Pedals

The most common pianos today are the:

Spinet:  The lowest "upright" piano where the action is placed lower in the piano in order to make it as short as possible.

Console:  (40-42 inches high) is a little higher than the spinet and the action is higher in the piano.

Studio: (50 inches or so) is still higher than the ones above and made much like the console.

Upright: These are still made today and many of the older uprights are still around. Most of these were made forty years ago or more. They were made of the finest materials and craftsmanship and produced the finest tone next to the grand. They were, in fact, called "upright grands."

Grand:  Recognized by all as the finest in pianos and these are made in sizes from 5' up to 9'.

*Outside walls and moving do not matter if you do not tune your piano regularly. Maintain your piano as you would any other fine piece of equipment.
