Choosing a Piano Piano Care Keyboard Links

Which Piano is Best?

Most people shopping for a new piano usually ask the opinions of numerous close acquaintances that they think will know best. These acquaintances include their piano teacher, church music director, next-door neighbor and piano tuner, of course. Each of these individuals will probably have a different opinion. By the time they hear all of these opinions, they don't know what to buy and are thoroughly confused.

The majority will recommend the piano that they have had good experience with or what they prefer. Piano tuners are apt to suggest only the most highly priced instruments or the ones they enjoy tuning the most. Piano dealers, naturally, will suggest the pianos they sell in their stores, and their opinions will sometimes conflict with other dealers.

Because of this, the question should not be which piano is best. Rather, the appropriate question is which one is best for you?

Here are some basic things to consider when looking for a piano:

  • How much money do you intend to spend?
If you have a limited amount, your decision then becomes much easier.
  • Who will be playing the piano? How much wear will it receive?
If you have a possible concert artist in the family who will practice six to eight hours a day, do not consider paying below $2500.

The questions above are really the only ones you need to consider unless you plan to go into a complete study of pianos and their construction. Remember, you are not considering the ideal piano, but the piano that is best for you.

Lastly, after you have decided upon and purchased your piano, don't start checking the papers to see if you paid too much, nor continue to ask others if they think you got a good deal. Just enjoy your new piano and give it the proper care it deserves.
